Did you know that as a Christian you are in a most worthy and precious condition? That is why we are called to sometimes experience rejection and other persecutions. That is what Hebrews 11:38 is telling us. The writer of Hebrews spoke of those who had been persecuted by rejection and some martyred as, “men of whom the world was not worthy.” God’s point is that we are most worthy and precious to God, and the world is not worthy of our fellowship. The world’s rejection of us is actually a sovereign God’s judgment of them!

What are some of the reasons why we are in a most worthy and precious condition? First, we are objects of God’s favor. We are no longer objects of divine wrath, but of divine love, grace, and mercy. We are also in a most worthy and precious condition because of our union with Christ. We are united with the beloved Son, with whom the Father is well pleased. We are no longer strangers to God, but His very own children. Thirdly, we are in a most worthy and precious condition as we are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit dwells within each of His saints so that His glory may be revealed.

This most worthy and precious condition should teach us several lessons. One is that we should be more content. We are in no need of wealth, power, or sinful pleasure to improve our condition. As saints, we have more that anything the world can offer. This must make us more content. This is why the Bible speaks to this abundantly in passages such as Psalm 56:4, Matthew 10:28, Romans 8, and Matthew 6.

We must do all that we can to fully realize our most worthy and precious condition. As children of God, we are strangers and exiles on this earth, but we are the most worthy and precious to God. As the despised and ridiculed, the world may reject us, but their very persecutions are but acts of judgment against themselves. Saint, be encouraged that your inheritance in not in this world, and although trials will come, you are in a most worthy and precious condition and one “of whom the world is not worthy”.
