Abraham must have greatly loved Ishmael, the child born through the maidservant of his wife. He must have thought, "This will be the child of promise." He put all of his effort and all of his energy and all of his joy in Ishmael. Then God said, "No. You are going to have to surrender that, too. That is not My plan."
